The Duke of Cornwall visited Duchy College in Callington, Cornwall on 17th October 2024 to learn more about how the college is providing opportunities for young people in rural areas.
Duchy College, a Land Based Specialist College run a variety of courses for students. The College is part of the Stoke Climsland Farm Cluster, a group of 23 farms, including several local Duchy farms, who are working together to create landscape scale environmental change.
The land was leased by the Duchy of Cornwall, to Cornwall County Council in 1984 as a new County Agricultural College and the site has expanded over time with the latest addition being the Future Farm in 2020.
The Duchy of Cornwall are advocates of the college and support its students through its future farming programme, by offering knowledge and expertise around technological advances. The Duchy of Cornwall Land Steward team are also involved with marking the Year 2 Agriculture students, where the students run a mock farm tender exercise. This experience is a valuable part of their course as they delve into all aspects of a farming business.

Upon arrival at the college, the Prince met with Duchy College staff and participated in a crime scene investigation exercise run by students who are enrolled in the Military & Protective Services Academy at the Duchy College.
Following this, His Royal Highness visited Sam’s Café, a campus café run by foundation students. The Prince heard how the café supports student development and wellbeing. His Royal Highness also met with students in the Future of Farming programme and some participants of the dog grooming course.
